Centuries
old yellow pines trees, infected with bark
beetles, would otherwise have been taken for
their lumber -- but the owners of
Lost Trail Hot Springs had another vision
in mind. Chainsaw Sculptress Lisa
Foster
was hired to carve likenesses of Sacajawea,
the teen-age Shoshone guide who lead Captain
Lewis and Clark on their journey west.
Lewis & Clark, Chief Joseph and
Jeremiah Johnson have been commemorated by
Foster who has carved their statues from the 14-foot
to 22 foot high yellow pines stumps prepared
by a sawyer.
